Abstract

Chest X-rays are used to assess diagnostic conditions for patients with breast cancer. The aim of this research was to study the radiation dose from chest X-ray on the response of breast cancer cells. In this research, the proliferation and cell numbers of the MDA-MB-231 cell line were studied at 1, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h after 0.42–0.82 mGy of chest X-ray irradiation. The results showed that the cell morphology of breast cancer cells did not change after irradiation. In contrast, it was found that the radiation dose from chest X-ray inhibited cell growth and the cell viability of MDA-MB-231. It can be seen that the changes at the cellular level occur within cancer cells from low-dose radiation.
