Abstract

The main objective of this chapter is to determine inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in patients with or without preeclampsia by means of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. In this chapter, 16 cell cultures were obtained from different patients admitted to the hospital with term vaginal delivery or cesarean section. Here, we describe the ability to quantify the presence of cytokines in cell culture supernatants. The supernatants of the cell cultures were collected and concentrated. The concentration of IL-6 and VEGF-R1 was measured by ELISA to determine the prevalence of alterations in the samples studied. We observed that the sensitivity of the kit allowed the detection of several cytokines in a range between 2 and 200pg/mL. The test was performed using the ELISpot method (5×), which allowed a higher level of precision.
