Abstract
For wind velocity pattern of a site, the optimum rated speed of a wind machine may be determined on the bais of the maximum annual energy output or the lowest cost of energy extraction. Two methods have been used for determining the rated speeds of wind machines for annual wind velocity pattern of Bhopal (India). The analysis indicates that 27 kmph of rated speed will give the maximum annual energy output whereas the cost of energy output will be the minimum with the rated speed of 23 kmph at Bhopal.
