Abstract

L.O.S(Level of Service) is defined as qualitative measure used to relate the quality of motor vehicle traffic service. H.C.M proposes LOS as a letter that designate a range of operating conditions on a particular type of facilities. Traffic Volume Count is counting of number of vehicles passing through a road over a period of time. Traffic count is commonly undertaken either automatically or manually by observer who visually count and record traffic. In manual count method first take down the reading of traffic volume count and find the percentage of individual vehicle. Now we have to find out the spot speed for each and every class of vehicle. These is the simplest and direct method for spot speed determination. The method of collecting data is done by manually. The length of the stretch 50meter is selected for the survey road. In these methods four members are required. Two members at the start point one with stopwatch and another one for recording the time in the note book and at the end point same procedure is followed as done at the starting point. From the known distance and the measured time interval, speed is calculated. Next, we have calculated the mean speed, density and flow in kmph, v/km and v/hr. With these values we have plotted graphs of speed vs density, speed vs flow and flow vs density for 15 min interval time as shown in fig-1. We got the regression (R2) values from the excel. Where regression is known as statical analysis. Next, we have calculated volume capacity ratio for the selected stretch. We got the level of service “F”. And then calculated average free flow speed for speed vs density, speed vs flow and flow vs density are 10.8, 8.6 and 12.6. And some recommendations have been given to improve the free flow speed.
