Abstract

Oxygen-bomb combustion is suggested for decomposition of large samples of heterogeneous organic composites for the analysis of iodine and bromine. The micro method of Childs et al. [7] has been scaled up for the determination of up to 200 mg of bromine; for the determination of similar amounts of iodine, however, addition of sodium hydroxide to the hydrazine sulfate absorbing solution was required for complete reduction. The method of decomposition has been found safe even for 1 g samples of high explosives.
