Abstract

MgO single crystals were deformed in the high voltage electron microscope (HVER) at room temperature. The motion of screw dislocations is controlled by localized obstacles. The frequency distributions of the geometrical parameters - the obstacle distance, the curvature of the dislocation segments, and the angle of attack at the obstacles - were determined from the micrographs and were compared with current theories.
