Abstract

Capillary electrophoresis methodology has successfully been developed for the determination of six biocide substances in aqueous media following extraction from food contact paper and board. The procedure developed is rapid and simple and uses nontoxic reagents. Limits of detection were found to range between 125 and 1275 mg/kg paper, equating to 0.02–0.29 mg/dm2 surface area. Recoveries ranged between 53 and 114%. The methodology is capable of determining biocide concentrations at or below current legislative limits. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
