Abstract

TLC/HPLC methods for determining the individual amounts of corosolic and maslinic acids in the extract of Lagerstroemia speciosa leaves have been developed. The leaves of L. speciosa were extracted with methanol, followed by partition between CHCl3 and water, then separated using TLC on silica gel, and evaluated quantitatively by HPLC. The HPLC analysis was performed with an acetonitrile − 0.1% aqueous phosphoric acid mixture (60: 40) at a flow rate of 1 ml/min in an isocratic regime. The regression equations of the analytical curves and their coefficients of determination (R2) were calculated as follows: corosolic acid, y = 6627.9x + 2.6725 (R2 = 0.9998); maslinic acid, y = 6528.1x + 4.568 (R2 = 0.9995).
