Abstract
Aim: The study presents the careers of three detectives who worked in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, mainly in Budapest. Methodology: The present study was based on the analysis of the literature, contemporary news reports and family history records, primarily using the methodological tools of legal history research. Findings: The Hungarian detectives came to the detective corps from completely different social backgrounds and with different qualifications. Despite this, the detectives worked to a high standard and successfully solved contemporary crimes. Value: Research and findings on the detective corps are few and far between, so any information on the subject will enrich the knowledge of the legal history of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
