Abstract

Pr:Lu 3Al 5O 12 (LuAG) scintillator has interesting properties including a very fast 5d–4f emission decay time, excellent energy resolution, and high light yield. In order to use Pr:LuAG for radiation detection, the photodetector must have ultraviolet wavelength sensitivity because Pr:LuAG has a short emission wavelength of around 310 nm. A gallium nitride (GaN)-photodiode (PD) has maximum wavelength sensitivity between 300 and 400 nm, and so may be the most suitable photodetector for Pr:LuAG. In this work, we report the results of alpha-ray spectroscopy measurements by GaN-PD (ALGAN UVPD-380TO46BL) for Pr:LuAG.
