Abstract
Providing secure communication in different environments is very vital in an adhoc network. One of the important security threats in wireless adhoc networks are routing attacks. These attacks are used to disconnect a sensor network from its central base station. Ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) is a dynamic routing protocol that is not designed to consider security as a goal. In this research, a novel solution AODV Malicious node Detection and Removal (AODV- MDR) has been proposed. During route discovery of AODV-MDR, every intermediate node who claims that it has a fresh path to destination, must send Gratuitous Route Reply to the destination and destination sends acknowledgement back to the source through the same intermediate node. Based on the received acknowledgement, source node confirms the authenticity of claimed path and also applies hop count verification. Results revealed that the proposed scheme detect malicious node with great accuracy. Moreover, AODV-MDR works without any overhead of encryption and hashing.
