Abstract

AbstractA rapid one step Gomori trichrome with aniline blue (GTAB) stain is described. The original Gomori trichrome stain was modified by replacing the light green stain with an aniline blue stain. The aniline blue stained the necrotic myocardial fibers deep blue in hearts of patients undergoing autopsies following death due to early acute myocardial infarction. The aniline blue not only stained the fibrous components of the myocardial interstitium but also the necrotic myocardial fibers. The GTAB stain became very valuable in differentiating early acute hemorrhagic myocardial infarction from acute myocardial hemorrhage following coronary aorta bypass surgery.
