Abstract

A. J. Russo, C. S. Cobbs, G. J. Calton and J. W. Burnett. Detection of common antigenic sites in lethal proteins of non-related animal venoms. Toxicon 21, 433–437, 1983. — Monoclonal antibodies neutralizing specific coelenterate lethal toxins were used to determine the presence of homologous antigenic sites on toxin proteins of a rattlesnake ( Crotalus durissus terrificus), a hornet ( Vespa orientalis) and the sea wasp ( Chironex fleckeri). An anti-Portuguese man-o'war toxin antibody was found useful for isolating a C. d. terrificus toxin.
