Abstract
Injury to brain may result in transient or time varying changes in evoked potential (EP) signals. Here, the authors test the hypothesis that injury causes changes in the latency of the EP signal. Therefore, one can use latency changes as an indicator for detecting possible brain injury. The authors present an adaptive time delay estimation algorithm to estimate the latency changes in EP signals. The adaptive algorithm is used to analyze experimental data from cats made hypoxic by inhalation of 9% O/sub 2/. The analysis reveals that latency changes significantly when injury occurs. >
