Abstract

Malnutrition is one of the main public health problems that affects the whole world, not just the most disadvantaged societies. Disease-related malnutrition (DRM) is a new acronym for an old health problem that identifies the pairing of malnutrition and disease. DRM has a very high prevalence and negative consequences for the patient and national health systems. Classically, defining malnutrition has been considered a complex issue. The GLIM criteria for diagnosing malnutrition have become a turning point in the approach to DRM, allowing the scientific community to use the same language regarding this clinical entity. Morphofunctional assessment has entailed a fundamental paradigm shift in its diagnostic approach. Nutritional care is a human right that includes screening, diagnosis, feeding, and evidence-based medical nutrition therapy.
