Abstract
Abstract Herrera’s Anotaciones stands out for its theoretical imprint and its polemic nature, articulated around the purpose of the “decentering” of Garcilaso and the legitimization of the ideology and aspirations of its own author. The formidable paratextual body of the volume constitutes an essential contribution in that direction; this set of paratexts includes the Vida de Garcilaso written by Herrera himself, who, breaking the usual patterns of the preliminary biographies, takes the account of the facts as an excuse to deploy various strategies of self-promotion.
