Abstract

Expo Bridge was planned originally for an international exposition in Daejon, Korea, approximately 150 km south of Seoul. This twin arch bridge is situated over a small river and has a total length of approximately 330 m, including approach span. The twin arch bridge itself has a main span of 100 m. The main orthotropic steel deck is supported by 100 bundled CFRC (Center Fit Rope Core) suspender ropes with a diameter of 50 mm. The superstructure is supported by twin 32 m high steel arches. The overall width of the deck is 18 m, including 4.5 m pedestrian sidewalks on both sides. The two crossing arch members behave as a frame to support the superstructure, which is suspended from the arch members using 100 cables. The number of cables was selected to celebrate a centennial of participation by Korea in international expositions.
