Abstract
The HIPERLAN/1 channel access mechanism, also referred to as Elimination Yield Non-preemptive Priority Multiple Access (EY-NPMA) protocol, resolves contention problems by generating random variables. This paper is devoted to the evaluation of the goodness of a set of tested random number generation methods for the EY-NPMA protocol. The simulation experiments showed that some carefully selected simple generators such as Tausworthe generators can provide a similar performance as known random generation methods like the Wichmann-Hill algorithm. The work aimed at determining suitable generators for the HIPERLAN/1 channel access mechanism in terms of good statistical properties, operations speed and simplicity of the hardware architecture.
