Abstract
This paper presents a simplified design, characteristics, performance of CMOS based 8-bit Flash ADC (analog to digital converter) and FinFET based 8-bit Flash ADC. The comparative study shows the great difference in power dissipation of ADC. The CMOS based Flash ADC has the power dissipation of 89.33μW whereas FinFET based Flash ADC has much less power dissipation of 42.6846μW. Continious scaling of MOS is facing great challenges because of the leakage current and other short channel effects. As the channel length decreases continuously it is difficult to control the drain current by a single gate which owing to a new device known as FinFET. In this paper we have used a double gate MOS instead of a normal MOS, we have used 8 TIQ comparator and 1 8:3 encoder. The theoretical calculations and computer simulations are given in detail. Design has been made on cadence virtuoso tool using 45nm technology.
