Abstract

Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) is presently developing an Isotope Separator On-Line (ISOL) post-accelerator type of Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) facility. The facility is planned around the existing K = 1 3 0 room temperature cyclotron as the primary accelerator and RFQ and LINAC as the post-accelerators for the ion beams. The following report presents the beam dynamics design of the first three LINAC cavities to accelerate RIBs up to about 400 keV/u along with the results of the RF structure studies on the cold model of the first LINAC tank. The mechanical engineering design aspects of the first LINAC tank have also been discussed.
