Abstract

In this paper, we present the design of a transmit-mode active integrated antenna (AIA) operating in the S-band. The proposed design consists of a radiating structure with an integrated transistor (HBT: Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor) based Negative Impedance Converter(NIC) which collectively forms the transmit-mode AIA. Here, a quasi-yagi antenna operating in S-Band is designed to be the radiating structure. The proposed AIA is designed on an FR4 substrate, which is subsequently fabricated and measured. The measured quasi-yagi antenna operates in the frequency band of 2.04 – 3.29 GHz having a gain of 4.86 dBi in the broadside direction at 2.16 GHz. The proposed antenna-NIC integrated AIA operates at a frequency of 2.16 GHz, with 5.04 dBm transmitter power, suitable for low-power IoT applications.
