Abstract

High-current superconducting conductors are widely used in fusion magnets, high energy accelerators and high magnetic field facilities. A new test facility is developed to carry out experimental research on DC performance of new conductors. Measurements of the current sharing temperature $(T_{\mathrm{cs}})$ as a function of magnetic field and sample current can be used for estimating the temperature margin at various operating conditions. In this paper, a variable temperature insert is designed to allow $T_{\mathrm{cs}}$ assessments. The minimum heating power, response time, temperature distribution and the influence of stainless steel jacket are also analyzed.
