Abstract

The Panel, under the chairmanship of S. P. Keller, was created by the Solid State Sciences Committee, National Research Council, at the request of and with the support of the National Science Foundation. The Panel consisted of four subpanels: Scientific Opportunities, Raymond L. Orbach, chairman; Applications, John K.
