Abstract

The absorption efficiency and the absorbed power distribution of the laser rod material for diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSLs) are two of the most important factors for the design of a high-powered laser system with good beam quality. The structure of the chamber reflector influences both the absorption capability and the distribution homogeneity of the pumped rod. In this paper, we have created a procedure to determine the slit thickness and width of a triangular reflector for a laser diode (LD) side-pumped structure in order to obtain both a relatively high absorption efficiency and a homogeneous absorption distribution. The absorption characteristics were analysed in the cross section of a long rod and the experimental results were in agreement with the theoretical analysis. The approach mentioned here can be used to determine the characteristics of a normal LD-side-pumped solid-state laser module.
