Abstract

A simplified and effective phase separator for use in flow systems is described. The sample, 300 μl, is introduced into an aqueous stream (flow injection). The aqueous phase, containing the sample plugs, is divided into small segments by an organic phase using a commercial T-connector. Separation of the two phases is achieved in a specially constructed glass three-way and the absorbance of the organic phase is measured. The construction and performance of the system are illustrated by the analysis of iodide samples. Up to 30 samples/h can be analyzed with a relative standard deviation better than 1.3%.
