Abstract
This paper presents a design of a high gain cavity-backed circular patch antenna. By using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based cavity and feeding mechanism. This proposed antenna aims to increase the gain. It is fed by two different feeding transitions, namely microstrip-to-SIW and coax-to-SIW, have been studied by considering in terms of electrical performance, including reflection coefficient, gain and radiation pattern. This antenna is designed with CST Microwave Studio. As a result, we obtained a maximum gain of 7.45dB using the proposed antenna with coax-to-SIW transition operating at the X-band of 10GHz center frequency, which allows a gain improvement of 3.47% over the microstrip-to-SIW transition.
