Abstract

A simple frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna for multiband applications is proposed. It consists of two patches on the same FR4 substrate with a gap 1.8 mm in between them. Three RF pin diodes are employed for making the electrical connection between the patches. Frequency reconfigurability characteristic of this antenna is obtained by means of controlling the states of these pin diodes. The designed microstrip antenna can be reconfigured in five different resonant frequencies viz. 2.4, 4.26, 4.32, 4.58 and 5.76 with acceptable return loss. All the reconfigurable states provide a fixed radiation pattern.
