Abstract

In this paper a bowtie shaped frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna is proposed. The overall dimensions of antenna are 10 x 10 x 1.59 mm3. The antenna is designed on FR4 substrate and simulated on CST microwave studio. A Coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed having conducting ground is used along with two PIN diodes and shorting pin. The antenna shows frequency reconfigurability with on-off state of diodes. The proposed design radiates at 4.55 GHz, 7.45 GHz, 4.51 GHz, and 6.88 GHz resonant frequency based on different switching state of diodes and the main lobe magnitude of far-field E-field pattern is more than 9 dBV/m. The 3 dB angular width is greater than 230° for majority of the cases. The proposed antenna is small in size and can be used for various wireless applications.
