Abstract

The three phase converter discussed in the paper is a conventional three phase converter with a fourth leg. This operates both in rectifier mode and in inverter mode. By properly triggering the thyristors the negative portion of the output voltage is eliminated in the rectifier mode and the positive portion is eliminated in the inverter mode. This method of control improves the input power factor. This paper gives detailed procedure for generating the firing pulses for the thyristors using 8085 microprocessor to operate the converter both in the rectifier mode and in the inverter mode. A software is developed and tested. The output waveforms are obtained both for rectifier and inverter modes.
