Abstract

An ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switch has to process a variety of services that require different quality of service (QoS) and resources. Unifonn switch processing may thus lead to network performance degradation. Adapting the switch processing to each traffic service is an important key to optimizing network resources. We present here a methodology for designing an ATM switch capable of adapting its processing to traffic behavior. Based on simulation techniques a number of experiments were carried out on different traffic behaviors to identify the most suitable switch processing.
