Abstract
Micro perforated panel (MPP) sound absorber with single uniform air gap is an applicable absorbing material that can provide full absorption at a specific frequency, but practical usages of them are limited and design procedures haven’t presented yet. The main goal of this article is to introduce practical engineering design equations and charts that let the acoustician design a sound absorber in a simple accurate way. This is done by optimizing absorption, based on Maa theory, to achieve design equations and to plot corresponding design charts based on them. Also an equation has been introduced for the first time in this article which makes design of MPPAs very easy and precisely. Dimensionless parameters have been presented, dimensionless equations have been attained accordingly to study MPPs more generally. Sensitivity analysis is done to recognize each parameter’s effect on absorption. Designing procedure has been illustrated by an example which its accuracy has been examined experimentally by testing the corresponding sample in Impedance tube.
