Abstract
Automation of the manufacturing processes has been a major activity over the last six years at Black and Decker’s U.K. Manufacturing site. A new strategy has been evolved which is used as a framework for product design and manufacture decisions. Methods of evaluating the suitability of alternatives are described, together with examples of specific techniques which have been developed to minimise manufacturing costs and capital investments.
