Abstract

As key issues in product life-cycle investigations. Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Disassembly (DFD) have received increasingly more attention. While some DFA techniques have reached a reasonable level of maturity, DFD methodology is still in its early stages of development. There has been little research on the relationship between DFA and DFD, especially as it pertains to their implementation. in this paper, the relationship between DFA and DFD rules is explored through a case study, where assemble and disassembly time data are collected for a commercial device. Then, a DFA and a DFD tool are applied to this device, and the results are examined to gauge the degree of overlap between DFA and DFD rules.
