Abstract

Design equations for determining ultimate loading capacity of Ayin timber beam have been developed based on the ultimate tensile and compressive stresses, instead of modulus of rupture, which has been the usual practice. The axial stress-stain equations in tension and compression were converted to flexural stress and neutral axis depth relationships of the beam section, and integrated over the beam section to obtain the tensile and compressive forces and the distance between the centroids. The values of the design parameters agreed with the experimental data. Journal of Applied Science and Technology Vol. 13 (1 & 2) 2008: pp. 76-80
