Abstract

Despite the demonstration of safety critical structural applications of plastic in the automotive industry, the leak of commercial and technological experience in using fibre reinforced composites ( frc) restrict their growth. In an attempt to close this knowledge gap, Rover has established a multidisciplinary composite team within the Advanced Technology Centre at Warwick University developing components in collaboration with Rover engineers. The design experience, engineering disciplines and data requirements for producing a large frc structural component is described and illustrates the development procedures to potential frc suppliers to the industry.
