Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present a high voltage pulse generatorwhich is able to generate 3 to 30 kV pulses through a 50 Ω load impedance, lasting less than 1 ns and having a rise-time of a hundred picoseconds. Thepulse repetition frequency is superior to 1 kHz. The technology of this coaxialgenerator based upon the technology of a high pressure gas switch is described.Dedicated probes and attenuators were constructed in order to measure pulsesdelivered by the generator without perturbation. The procedure and thecalibration tests are also presented. Finally, a simulation using Spicesoftware allows the determination of the parameters which limit theperformance of the system in order to model and optimize the transientresponse of the generator. Simulation results are compared to experimentalones and validate the Spice model.
