Abstract

The idea of an efficient multicarrier signaling technique is one of the critical challenges for beyond fifth-generation (B5G) of wireless communication networks. The B5G mobile networks require the multicarrier scheme featuring, immunity to multipath fading and inter-symbol interference (ISI), robustness against inter-carrier interference (ICI) and Doppler spread to outreach their purposes. Several Filter-based techniques such as Filter Bank Multicarrier (FBMC) and various Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)-based techniques such as Universal Filtered Multicarrier (UFMC) and Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) are proposed in recent studies. Besides, Orthogonal Time–Frequency Space (OTFS) technique is introduced newly as one of the potential waveform nominees for B5G which can outperform OFDM-based techniques in high mobility situations. One of the prominent benefits of the OTFS method is that it can be regarded as the pre- and post-processing steps for OFDM-based techniques. In this paper, we extended the FBMC scheme using the OTFS technique and propose a novel structure as FBMC-based OTFS technique which benefits from both strategies while reducing their deficiencies. Our concluded analyses and results can certificate our system superiority in error probability and time-spectral efficiency terms where the FBMC-based OTFS employing different types of filters are compared to the OFDM-based OTFS system.
