Abstract

An interior permanent magnet motor with a single layer non-overlapping concentrated stator winding is analysed. It is shown that for this winding type the winding factor can be increased by varying the coil pitch. Another problem addressed is that of the variable motor parameters due to saturation. A finite element generated 2D characteristic of the motor is introduced which allows the designer to easily choose the best number of series turns and accurately calculate the motor performance over the whole speed range.
