Abstract

Nowadays, linear electric motors are used in industries and applications that require linear motion. The textile industry is one of the industries where these motors are widely used. There are several classifications for linear motors, one of them is secondary based linear motors. These linear electric motors have two secondary types: Flat secondary and Ladder secondary. In this paper first a linear electric motor with ladder secondary and later a linear motor with flat secondary is analyzed; and their relationships are expressed with consideration of the end effect. Then the thrust force and synchronous speed are selected as the objective function and the motor is optimally designed using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. According to the results, linear induction motors with ladder secondary have more thrust force than motors with flat secondary, however due to their higher design cost, they are less popular. In the last section of this paper, a linear induction motor with hybrid secondary is designed and optimized. This motor has more thrust force than the flat secondary and also has less design cost than the ladder secondary.
