Abstract

An investigation of thermohydraulic performance of a spiral heat exchanger with different spiral design were performed by using numerical simulation. The Archimedean spiral design and rectangular spiral design were constructed under the same turns and the same heat transfer surface, respectively. The heat transfer rate and overall heat transfer coefficient of spiral heat exchangers at different Reynolds number were examined. Moreover, the synthetical performance of these two designs were discussed. This study evaluated the possibility of improving thermal performance of heat exchanges between two fluids in spiral heat exchanger by modified the spiral design.
