Abstract

Buildings consume a large portion of electric energy worldwide and they are also expected to actively participate in demand response under the concept of smart grid. A key premise for efficient energy utilization is energy measurement and loads control. In this paper, a Web-based Energy Management Application (WEMA) is designed and implemented based on our previous work. This application runs on a development platform termed Smart Energy Management System (SEMS) which can perform real-time monitoring of power consumption of designated devices or areas and controlling of loads. The WEMA provides users with visualized interface for SEMS deployment and utilization, and offers straightforward tools to understand energy consumption patterns of buildings in device-level and high time resolution, which is of significant value for energy-saving, demand side management, and load profile modeling. Preliminary experiments and analysis have been carried out, and the results testify the validity and viability of this application.
