Abstract

This research paper explains the isolation of gum from the seeds of Samanea saman. Mucoadhesive tablets of Valsartan were formulated using novel gum of Samanea saman as a mucoadhesive polymer and Instamodel 41 as a release retardant. The formulation parameters like the concentration of Samanea saman gum and Instamodel 41 were optimized by using design expert software by constructing response surface graph, contour, and desirability graph. A relationship between variables was developed by constructing a polynomial equation using a quadratic and linear model. The optimized tablet formulation shows mucoadhesive strength 4635.65 Dynes/cm2 and Ex vivo Residence Time 382 min and complete drug release within 12 hours. In the ANOVA model F value, 292.58 for Mucoadhesive strength of tablet and 19.59 for t100% implies that the model is significant. Korsmeyer-Peppas model, suggests anomalous transport of drug release. Stability study suggests that optimized formulation is stable at the accelerated condition of temperature and humidity.
