Abstract

The present work mainly focused on the synthesis and characterization of o-aminophenol-aniline copolymer with Ni-ZnFe2O4 nano composite for selective recognition of NO2 gas. The polymer composite sensors showed excellent specificity with sensing response of 70% with LOD of 38.2 ppb for NO2 gas at room temperature. The specific surface area of the Ni-ZnFe2O4 was found to be 50.806 m2/g with average pore diameter of 12.16 nm. The polymer composite with 10% of Ni-ZnFe2O4 showed highest response of 3s with good repeatability and maximum sensitivity of 1.34 for NO2 target gas. Newly prepared polymer composite sensors showed good stability up to 60 days without any noticeable change under ambient conditions. Theoretical calculations also reveal the moderate binding energies (∼0.8 eV) between polymer and NO2, thus offering high selectivity and good reversibility towards NO2 gas sensing.
