Abstract

This paper presents a novel comb-shaped electric dipole and a quarter-wave shorted magnetic dipole in the magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna. This antenna has been excited by cascaded 1 shaped feed line to exhibit broadside radiation pattern. A wide impedance bandwidth of 24%, with 8.1 dBi peak gain has been achieved for the frequency range 2.2 GHz-2.8 GHz. The antenna also exhibits low side lobe radiations and almost identical E-plane and H-plane radiation patterns in the given frequency range. The 3-dB E-plane and H-plane beamwidth of 101.4° at 2.5 GHz has also been reported. The antenna has a wide potential for various applications in the S band.
