Abstract
The Letter describes a modified nonrestoring algorithm for square rooting. A very fast hardware implementation based on a pipelined array is proposed. The new architecture avoids an auxiliary system for the identification of exceptions. Carry select adders instead of carry propagate ones are used to improve performance.
