Abstract

The use of renewable energy is growing rapidly in the modern trend. Specially, wind turbines have been playing a great role in the generation of electricity and moreover their use has been increasing for electrification. Small scale wind turbine power have become very useful where low power is required; however, complex design makes it expensive and unreliable to use for low power. The research is primarily focused on the preliminary design & its fabrication and the considerations for designing of the 500W horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) system. Moreover, it is concentrated on power extraction and the performance of the system and emphasized on the utilization of wind for optimum power extraction. The generator uses permanent neodymium magnet of very high strength in the alternator for the generation of the power. Performance analysis of the wind turbine helps in analysis of output power, voltage, current, rpm and wind speed. The model system of the small scale wind turbine is significantly important particularly in the rural electrification and promotion of renewable energies as a form of green and clean energy.
