Abstract

In this paper, the design and development of 16W Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) operating in the L-band using GaN device is described. This linear SSPA is capable of handling OFDM modulation with power back off. The SSPA operates with 28V DC supply and needs -7dBm level of RF input signal. The input and output matching circuits for PA device are realized on low loss RF PCB substrate. Overall gain blocks, bias sequence circuits are explained. This SSPA is designed in-house. The prototype and production units are built and integrated in the radio system. The measurements are carried out over this band for verifying all the parameters. This SSPA is used for communication application in Radio on the Move project. This paper elaborates on critical requirements, the design aspects, implementation & engineering of the SSPA.
