Abstract
ABSTRACT: This article discusses the development of second homes around the reservoir of Salto Caxias Hydroelectric Power Plant which is located in the Iguacu River, between the cities of Boa Vista da Aparecida and Capitao Leonidas Marques in the southwest of Parana State. After the impoundment, which flooded areas of nine cities, the occupation of its surroundings started in 1999 driven by real estate speculation. Because of this, the reservoir and its surroundings became to be valued as leisure spot and tourism of second residence. This study, besides contributing to the debate about tourism of second residence, aims to analyze the expansion of second homes in the cities around the reservoir formed by Salto Caxias HEPP, more specifically in Cruzeiro do Iguacu-PR. The methodology of the study was based on bibliography survey on the topic, in the search for information through site visits, informal interviews with real estate agents and in questionnaires to the owners of the second homes. The research revealed the contribution of tourism of second residences to the production of space and the (re)creation of the territory.
