Abstract
Introduction. 10-20 % of hospitalized patients for COVID - 19 have clinical manifestations lasting more than three weeks, particularly musculoskeletal symptoms (including arthralgia and myalgia), besides fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, and cognitive dysfunction, among others. Objective. We aimed to determine the frequency of post - acute COVID - 19 syndrome in those who had been hospitalized. Material and Methods. A cohort of COVID - 19 patients discharged from the hospital between April 2020 and March 2022. Data were obtained via telephone survey. Results. 82.8 % out of 128 patients were still alive 12 months after their hospital discharge; deaths were associated with voluntary discharges or refusal of intubation; 61.3 % reported good health. Clinical manifestations lasting more than three weeks occurred in 38.7 % (95 % CI: 29.9 % - 47.5 %). The most common ones were fatigue (50.9 %), dyspnea (46.2 %), arthralgia/myalgia (17 %), depression (10.4 %), and hair loss (12.3 %); 26.4 % continued with symptoms or signs 3 to 4 weeks post - discharge, 52.8 % had no medical follow - up, and 45.2 % sought private medical care; 82.1 % was vaccinated after discharge. Conclusions. Clinical manifestations of moderate to severe COVID - 19 remains high after hospital discharge in Mexican patients in this series.
