Abstract

Abstract Averroes wrote three commentaries on Aristotle's Physics, short (or epitome) middle, and long. He also wrote a book on questions in physics. The present book is based mainly on these four texts. Chapter 1 is a description of the four texts, their structure, and the available manuscripts, editions, and translations. Only the short commentary is extant in Arabic. The long commentary is commonly known via the medieval Latin translation. All three commentaries as well as the questions in physics are extant in medieval Hebrew translations. Without studying all these texts it is impossible to understand the development of Averroes' physics and to appreciate his achievement.
